Can I Double Glaze My Existing Sash Windows?

The short answer is YES! In most cases the original sash is can be upgraded to A+ Rated planitherm Toughened double glazed units. Planitherm is thermally insulated glass. It uses the latest advances in glazing technology to coat the surface of the glass with a high performance thermally insulating layer, and this will, of course, lead to savings in heating bills for your home. It´s known as low-emissivity glass, or low-E glass, for short.

The Process is Simple

  • Remove Sashes from the window frame
  • Remove old Glass from original sash & make space for new double glazed unit
  • We then rout further into the rebate of the sash to allow for the new thickness of glass to be installed.
  • Installing double glazed unit: The unit is then installed onto butyl putty or silicone and then a custom timber bead is then fixed to secure the glass in place.
  • Re Fit Sashes are then painted and able to be re fit back in the Sash box.
  • Occasionally double glazed units can’t be fitted into existing sashes. When this occurs we can manufacture new sashes with double glazed units in our London based workshop to match the existing perfectly. These are then painted and installed into the original Sash box
